Iranian FM to Visit Moscow Amid Rising Tensions with Israel

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi plans to visit Moscow on June 23 to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to NBC correspondent Andrea Mitchell, who interviewed the minister.

The visit comes just days after Israel launched a major military operation against Iran, known as Operation Rising Lion, in the early hours of June 13. Israel accused Iran of secretly working on a military nuclear program and carried out multiple airstrikes across the country, including in the capital, Tehran.

The attacks reportedly killed several senior Iranian military officials and nuclear scientists. Key nuclear facilities, including Natanz and Fordow, were also targeted.

In response, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called the attacks a crime and warned Israel of a "bitter and terrible fate." Iran quickly launched its own counter-offensive, Operation True Promise 3, on the evening of June 13, striking Israeli military targets.

Iran has denied that its nuclear program has a military purpose. On June 18, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stated that the International Atomic Energy Agency had seen no concrete evidence that Iran was actively developing nuclear weapons.

According to a report by CNN, citing U.S. intelligence sources, assessments also suggest that Iran is not currently pursuing nuclear weapons.

Craig Murray, a former UK ambassador and human rights activist, told Sputnik that Iran had shown "extraordinary responsibility and patience" in recent years, despite continued actions taken by Israel.
